Finding Time

Fri Feb 13, 2009, 12:50 AM
This is one of those days where I wish I had started on this young and kept at it. I'd be good by now, and I'd be dedicated to the craft, and I wouldn't be struggling in two different professions.

Instead I started writing. I could be decent. I'm not going to call myself a writer yet because I believe in the necessary legitimacy one acquires through publication. The point is that I went into English instead of art.

And now, I have to fight to find time. This is the problem when you're working on any Master's Degree, I'm sure, but I have to find time amongst this and all the games I play to sit down and draw something.

I need to really sit down and prioritize these things, figure out what I need and want most, instead of taking a path of least resistance.

  • Mood: Lazy
  • Listening to: my computer whir.

deviantID

I'm new here.

Somebody told me to take up drawing, which I did very recently, and I need a place to put things. This seems as good as any.

I'm not very good, so you'll see the usual self-deprecating comments. Comments are welcome, but I prefer solid, thoughtful criticism, good and bad, over simple praise and insults.

No, really, I mean that. I've been flipping through a fair shake of deviants and have seen that for most people "criticism" means "only praise," and God help you if you make a suggestion for improvement. But seriously, please, dig in. I'm doing this informally and I'm not going to get any better without help.

Note that most of my stuff is going in scraps. I'm embarassed about most of this, so I'm keeping it off the main.

I use pencils and inks. That's about it.

Welcome to deviant art, and thanks for the watch! Nice to see someone so candid, looking to improve their artwork. I'm not sure I'd have much to offer, considering my own pretty fleeting talents, but I'll be sure to take a look at your gallery!

“What did you want me to do? Be reasonable. You didn't expect me to give myself up... 'It's a far, far better thing that I do.' The old limelight. Oh, Holly, you and I aren't heroes. The world doesn't make any heroes outside of your stories.”
